THE PAINTED ETCHINGS

In 1999 the etching Ebb and flow, Priest Cove was printed. In 2004 /2005, as part of my ongoing fascination and exploration (and maybe obsession) with this part of the West Cornish coast I decided to break with convention and experiment by taking this etching back down to the cove and reworking it in situ – using collage, paint, ink, flotsam, jetsam, pastel and crayon. Each piece deals with one idea from a stream of thoughts / feelings / visions that arise every time I visit Priest Cove; some of these ideas have already been explored in larger paintings (the Porth series) while others act as ‘test pieces’ for further developments in the future.
